Donation Guidelines
Through the mushrooming popularity of art auction fundraisers, the art buying public has been conditioned to expect that art can be bought at auctions for far, far below the market price. This hurts our ability to sell our art for a fair price in our commercial venues, and therefore also hurts the ability of galleries to thrive.
Artistsʼ Link is an all volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization created to be a resource and support group for Memphis area visual artists, and to be a link between artists and the community. Artistsʼ Link has considered this problem in meetings with members. In our efforts to promote more equitable treatment for artists, we offer the following guidelines:
1.The artist shall receive a certain percentage of the sale price of the artwork (preferably 50%) or agreed upon privileges or services in lieu of this amount. It is entirely likely that the artist will donate all or part of his/her commission back to the organization thereby receiving a tax break also.
2. The artist shall be allowed to set a minimum bid and this minimum bid shall be honored.
3. Artwork that does not sell shall be returned promptly to the artist.
4. Artists shall be paid promptly for sales.
5. The name and contact info of the buyer shall be furnished to the artist for his/her records.
6. The artwork shall be displayed in an attractive well lit manner with the artistʼs name prominently displayed next to the artwork.
We believe that if these guidelines are followed, the result will be a win/win situation for your fund-raising organization and the artist. The artists may only deduct the cost of the materials on any donated artwork. We feel that following these guidelines will also insure that your organization will receive quality artwork for your fundraising activities.
It is the policy of Artistsʼ Link to participate in events that honor these guidelines.
