In December 2016, I published a full length novel illustrated with my own paintings: "The Coney Island Book of the Dead," available from Amazon at https://goo.gl/5sVk38, at Barnes&Noble, at Booksellers in Memphis, bookbook in Manhattan, and other sellers. For more information, stories, photos, art, and a blog, see http://sheilapmartin.com.

There are some 40 16x30 paintings in the series, two of which have won prizes. I used mixed water media on paper with heavy use of masking and stenciling. You can buy prints of them in various sizes at Imagekind, http://sheilamartin.imagekind.com/ (available by December 10, 2016).

The novel begins on Memorial Day, 1957, when a young girl growing up amid the kinetic energy and dark undercurrents of Coney Island receives a deadly secret message through the music of a sleazy lounge singer and a legendary Delta Bluesman Who will die next? Her anorexic mother? Homicidal aunt? Best friend? The girl herself? Or maybe the elderly Yiddish boarder who claims she cheated the Angel of Death but he’s still after her.

I’ve since completed a second novel, "The Time Artist" and am looking for a publisher.

The Time Artist takes place during the 1968/69 school year at a prestigious art college in New York City. It is part murder mystery, part time-travel adventure, part love story, and part inside look at an exciting time in modern art through the eyes of artists. It is also a meditation on the nature of time.
