Karen Winterton
I majored in Art History at the University of Memphis, however am virtually self-trained as a painter. Workshops in Renaissance and 17th century Dutch painting techniques led to my specialization in miniature painting. These artworks are usually under 24 square inches in size and the requirements of this form for precision and delicate paint layers is well suited to my love of classic painting styles.
I enjoy depicting a wide range of subjects and am always striving for clarity of representation with translucent saturated colors whether I am painting still life, people, nature or architecture or working in a regular or miniature size format.
I have participated in a large number of miniature painting exhibitions in the United States and in England and am a member of the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. I was awarded 2nd Place in the Oils category at the 2017 MPSGS 84th annual exhibit and Honorable Mention in the Still Life Category in the 2019 Exhibit. My paintings are in many private collections in the U.S. and the U.K.
