Artist-Educator-Naturalist

The art I make ranges from Representational to Abstract and points in-between.  Due to my tendency to combine items, media and ideas, I draw, paint, sculpt and have created Installations with various materials.  For me, the different topics coupled with the budget guide me to select a medium and style.  Working in this manner frees and inspires me to continue learning, experimenting and evolving artistically.

Inspired by the many fields of blooming Sunflowers I saw while studying abroad years ago in Western Europe, Italy, Greece and more recently in Iowa, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi, my recent art consists of nine oil paintings: six are 6”x8” canvases and three are 8”x24” canvases.  With more time for working in the Studio due to the Covid Pandemic reducing my teaching load as well as travel time, I took advantage of the opportunity to fulfill this long-anticipated project.

In this Series, I wanted to follow the process from on-site sketches to drawings allowing the images to morph into bursts of color on the canvases. The joy of realizing this Sunflower project has brightened my studio and my spirits.I hope you will also enjoy looking at them
