Barrie Foster
Barrie began painting in 1998 after moving to a small farm in Tipton County. She studied art under Frank Sher and Fred Rawlinson in Memphis, and has attended numerous workshops over the years. Her style of painting in watercolors is unique and she has won many awards, both regionally and nationally. She has had many solo art exhibits, including at the Renaissance Center in Dixon, and Dyersburg State Community College in Covington. Several years ago she began teaching art in the community. From 2006 to 2008 she was Gallery Curator for the Historic Ruffin Theater in Covington, and in 2007 she founded the Tipton Art League. She studied foreign languages at the University of Memphis, and she studied Italian language and culture at the University of Bologna in Italy in the summer of 2013. That trip was like a wonderful dream, and once she returned home, she felt as though she knew nothing and everything about art, all at the same time. She spent the next year experimenting with her art, and painted many scenes of Italy. In August of 2014 Barrie became Director of the Tipton County Museum, Veterans Memorial, & Nature Center in Covington, where she has implemented an art program and continues to teach. Barrie is a signature member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society and Kentucky Watercolor Society.
